Game Night schedule

So, hey! We had great fun at Game Night last Friday. Erin S. and Emily taught us all how to play Backseat Drawing Jr., a fantastic family game that’s featured in our holiday catalog (watch your mailbox this week — the catalog is on the way).

We’ll be hosting our next Game Night on Friday, November 6th, from 6PM to 8PM. It’ll be pretty rollicking, since Erin S. is planning to feature Capture the Gag, one of her very favorite active games. The November Game Night will be the last one for 2009, though — in December, Pufferbellies will be playing host to a very special guest on Friday evenings. A little hint: our special guest will be flying in from way up north via an unconventional mode of transportation. Stay tuned for more details.

September Game Night – Friday, September 4!

Stop by Pufferbellies Toys and Books in Downtown Staunton, VA on Friday, September 4 to try out one of our hottest, new games – Patchwork! Patchwork is a colorful adventure for 2-5 players, ages 5 to 100+ from Knightweaver Games. Players work to arrange colored cards to make sets of 4,5, or 6 matching cards. Here’s the catch, your friends are also playing with your cards! Every card is double sided and you can make a move with your cards or your neighbors’ cards and so can they. With logic, sequencing and planning, this simple, tactical game can be challenging and complex for every age. Join us from 6-8 pm for a quick tutorial, lots of playing time, snacks and prizes! PatchWork and its companion game, PatchWord, will be 10% off during Game Night, too.

Boom! Boom!  BOOM!

Thunder? The sound of fireworks at the Fourth of July? – NO!  It’s Chickyboom! the newest game from BlueOrange Games.  Chickyboom! is a unique balancing game with chickies, hay bales, and wagon wheels galore.  The set up for the game is as much fun as the playing!  Join us next Friday for Game Night as we learn Chickyboom!, Gobblet Gobblers, Zimbbos and other fun games designed for 4 years and up.

If you’re older than 4, don’t think these games aren’t for you – they’re challenging for everyone.  We’ll also pull out other cool games as we go along.  There will be snacks, prizes, and the grand giveaway of one of the games we play throughout the evening.  Plus, you’ll receive 10% off the purchase of featured games during Game Night.  Get out of the heat and join us for a BOOMING good time before the fireworks on our nation’s birthday.

Chickyboom from Blue Orange Games

We’re pretty psyched – we’ve been waiting for the newest preschool game from Blue Orange to be released since we saw it at Toy Fair in New York in February … and it’s finally here! Chicky Boom is a great game for ages 4+, with tricky balancing, cute chickens and satisfying crashes. Check out our short video to see how to play.

Game night success!

Tonight, we hosted a really, really fun game night featuring two of our favorite games of skill and luck: Double Shutter and YamSlam from Blue Orange Games. There was a pickup game of Buzzword, too, which was great. We gave away gift certificates to The Split Banana, and one lucky winner took home a free copy of YamSlam! There was a lot of rowdiness, plenty of pretzels, Gummi Bears all around and only one spilled juice box.

Friday mayhem – Ruditoonz and Game Night

This morning, we hosted a wonderful concert by Indiana kids’ musician Ruditoonz. The house was packed, and there was plenty of singing, dancing and clapping. We have CDs available for sale here at the store if you didn’t get a chance to pick one up after the show. Here’s what it looked like from my vantage point at the back:

Boochie – a great family game for inside or out

Our friends at Gamewright made this great little video to show off one of their newest games, Boochie. Boochie is an active, get-up-off-the-couch family game for ages 8+. You can play inside or out! We heart it.

Game Night is Friday, May 1st

Guess what? It’s almost time for Game Night!

Next Friday, May 1st, please join us from 6pm – 8pm to learn two of our favorite games from the award-winning Blue Orange Games.

Double Shutter is a fast-paced game that calls for lots of luck and a little strategy as you roll to shut two rows of tiles numbered 1-9.  Any tiles left standing are added up to equal your score for the round. Play by yourself or with a crowd.

YamSlam is BRAND NEW and takes the fun of Yahtzee and Poker and puts them in one fun shaped box. Roll the dice and try to collect the most points possible before all of the chips are gone. Make pairs, three of a kind, straights, full houses and flushes or go for a YamSlam with all dice showing the same number.

Bring your family and friends for this fun-packed night of games, snacks and prizes. We’ll be giving away one of our featured games to a lucky winner, as well as gift certificates to everybody’s favorite gelato shop, The Split Banana.
