Open House yesterday was so much fun! We had a wonderful book reading/signing with Rachel Brown, author of Small Camel Follows the Star. Then the women’s vocal ensemble Lyrisa performed a fantastic concert of holiday and kids’ music — they really kept the crowds entertained. Thanks, ladies of Lyrisa! And, Miss Susan told some favorite holiday stories, including her signature version of The Bun. It really put me in the holiday spirit — how about you? But don’t worry; we’re re-shelving the holiday music on our sound system until after Thanksgiving. 🙂
We also discovered the online program Free Rice, where for every word you define correctly, 10 grains of rice are donated to hungry folks around the world. Warning: highly addictive. We’re only permitting ourselves to play on our lunch breaks.
Book news: We now have in stock the winner of this year’s National Book Award for Young People’s Literature: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. Here’s an interview with the author.
And, today’s Sunday, which means you can Shop for a Cause at Pufferbellies. We’ll donate 10% of the amount you spend today, and every Sunday in November, to CASA for Children of Augusta County, Staunton & Waynesboro. As you shop for your loved ones this holiday season, this is an easy way to help the vulnerable children CASA serves. Thanks for your support.
