Six days left to get FREE Staunton Downtown gift cards! Really! Truly.

This is so great! Through December 12, you can get a FREE $10 Staunton Downtown Gift Card when you purchase a $50 Staunton Downtown Gift Card. Spend $50, get $60. I love to give (and get) Downtown Gift Cards, because they work at all my favorite restaurants (like The Split Banana, Co. and Baja Bean) and shops (like Pufferbellies) and they help keep dollars local.  You can purchase Downtown Gift Cards right here at Pufferbellies. For more details, please see the Staunton Downtown Development Association’s website.

PS — Did you know that the SDDA has a new blog? It’s a great way to stay connected with all the Downtown Staunton haps, like the Sears Hill ‘Save the Bridge’ movement.

Wednesday Crafternoons at Pufferbellies

Every Wednesday from 3PM to 5PM we host a great new program called Crafternoons. It’s free and fun for kids of all ages. We do a fun craft or art project at our big play table, and bake up fresh cookies to share. Here are a couple videos of our most recent Crafternoon projects — we hope to see you soon!

Hop Along the Bunny Trail – Easter in downtown Staunton, 2010

Hey, it’s almost that time again! Easter is approaching, and it even kind of feels like it with this great weather we’ve been having. Anyway, the Staunton Downtown Development Association and Staunton Recreation & Parks are hosting their famous Easter event again this year, and you’re invited. There are a lot of different parts to the event, and you can do as many or few or them as you like.

Saturday, April 3

From 10AM to 12noon, kids can hunt for Easter eggs at Gypsy Hill Park.

From 11AM to 12noon, kids and grownups can ride the free trolley from the Park to Byers Street Bistro downtown. At the Bistro, kids will get treats from the SDDA and a coupon for a $3 lunch special at the Bistro.

From 12noon to 1PM, kids can visit with the Easter Bunny while they eat lunch at Byers Street Bistro.

From 10AM to 1PM, kids can “hop” around from store to store downtown, collecting candy and treats from all the stores displaying an egg poster in their windows. Pufferbellies will be giving away the finest and most delicious treats, as per usual. 🙂

Sparkles and Sweets in Downtown Staunton – Friday, November 6

We’re getting ready for one of our favorite annual events — Sparkles & Sweets. It’s coming up this Friday, November 6, from 6 to 9PM. Nearly all of downtown Staunton’s shops, galleries and restaurants are participating. It’s an opportunity for you to enjoy free sparkling beverages and delicious treats at all the stores, take advantage of food and drink specials at the restaurants, and meet up with your friends and family to see everything that downtown has to offer. A lot of folks use this as a kick-off to their holiday shopping — we’ve got our Christmas and Hanukkah wrapping paper ready to go, so bring it on! This year there will be street entertainment, too, including live music and … FIRE JUGGLING. Yes! Any questions? Give us a call at 540-886-3516.

ASTRA Best Toys for Kids — Magna-Tiles

Between Labor Day and December 24th, we get asked one question more than any other: “Is gift-wrapping really free?!” (Answer: YES.) The question we’re asked second-most often is this: “What are the hot toys for Christmas this year?”

Well! I’m glad you asked. This the start of a series of video posts highlighting this year’s Best Toys for Kids, as voted on by members of ASTRA (that’s the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association). And we’re not talking about Tickle-Me-You-Know-Who, here. These are toys with lasting value. Toys that will hold your children’s interest well past Christmas morning. Toys that are sturdily made and will stand the test of time. Toys that kids love, and that grown-ups love to give them. The toys on the Best Toys list have been carefully chosen by owners of specialty toy stores all across the country — toy stores a lot like Pufferbellies. (Yep, we voted, too.) All the toys highlighted in our videos are available at our store in downtown Staunton, and we think they’re sure to be big hits with the kids in your life this holiday season.

So, without further ado, from the “Classic Play” category, we present … Magna-Tiles!

Mockingbird – new restaurant & music hall in downtown Staunton

Y’all, I’m so excited. I drove down Beverley Street this morning and noticed that there are now “coming soon” signs in the window at Mockingbird, Wade Luhn’s new restaurant and music room. There was a web address printed on the posters, so I checked it out. And, seriously? DROOL. It is going to be beautiful, and it looks like both the food and the music will be appealing and accessible to locals and visitors. Be sure to check out the PDF of the floor plan.

Downtown Staunton Easter Event on Saturday, April 11, 2009

Again this year, the Staunton Downtown Development Association and Staunton Recreation and Parks are hosting “Hop Along the Bunny Trail” in downtown Staunton.

It’s a pretty neat event with three major components; you can do all three, or just one or two.

First, from 10am to 12noon, there’s an Easter egg hunt at Gypsy Hill Park. From 11am – 1pm, the Staunton trolley will be transformed into the Bunny Expresss — ride it from the Park to downtown and visit with the Easter Bunny himself (herself? You know, it’s kind of unclear). The Bunny Express will drop you off at Byers Street Bistro, where kids can enjoy a specially-priced lunch. Finally, from 11am – 1pm, most downtown stores will be handing out candy and treats to kids who “hop along the bunny trail” — just look for the big eggs outside each store. Of course, Pufferbellies will be leading the way with the most delicious and plentiful treats.

The SDDA website has some more details for you here. Hope we’ll see you Saturday!
